We believe HVAC systems should comply with their environment and as such be sourced and powered with abundant resources and at direct disposal. Running your conditioner with sea or cooled water is logic. We go through the 3 types of condenser units you can find on the market:
Seawater-Cooled condensers:
- Seawater-Cooled condensers:
This system uses seawater to cool the refrigerant in the condenser. Such a system presents many advantages since it has a higher Coefficient of Performance than air-cooled ones. In other words, any water-cooled condenser is more energy efficient. However, it should be noted that the seawater temperature needs to be below 11.5°C to be used as a cooling substance. - Freshwater-cooled condensers:
They follow the same principle as seawater-cooled condensers since they push water through tubes within the system. Please note water-cooled systems require complex installations as well as heavy pipes to sustain corrosion. - Air-Cooled condensers:
In this system, the coils absorb the surrounding air to cool down the refrigerant inside, then warm air is pushed out. If the initial price of such unit is cheaper compared to water-cooled models, it still uses more energy for lower performance thus higher bills. Such unit is also less resistant to corrosion problems - Evaporative condensers:
The evaporative condenser is seen as a combination of a water-cooled condenser and an air-cooled condenser. Its system of heat rejection is done through the evaporation of water into an airstream travelling across the condensing coil. Its main advantage consists in reducing water pumping and chemical treatment requirements linked to cooling towers. It is also cheaper to install their air units.
